Emma specialises in the prevention of injuries, recognition and evaluation of injuries, management, treatment & appropriate referral, rehabilitation, sports massage and strapping and taping. Emma also has qualifications in dry needling, wound suturing and electrotherapy.
Sports Therapy is an aspect of healthcare that is specifically concerned with the prevention of injury and the rehabilitation of patients back to optimum levels of functional, occupational and sports specific fitness, regardless of age and ability.
A Sports Therapist is a healthcare professional who has the knowledge, skills and ability to:

A sports massage is designed to assist in correcting problems and imbalances in soft tissues that are caused from repetitive and strenuous physical activity and trauma. The application of sports massage, prior to and after exercise, may enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injury. An ideal treatment for anyone experiencing acute or chronic pain not just a sports person.
Dry needling is a technique physical therapists use to treat trigger points and muscular pain. The technique uses very fine needles, one without medication or injection and are inserted through the skin into specific soft tissues.
Taping and strapping techniques are commonly used by physiotherapists, athletic trainers and sports therapists in the treatment, support and prevention of sports injuries. Tape jobs are used to give extra support and reassurance to injured joints and soft tissues.
Rehabilitation is the process to regain full function following injury and involves restoring strength, flexibility, endurance and power. It is achieved through various exercises and drills. Rehabilitation is as important as treatment following an injury but unfortunately is often overlooked. The aim of a rehabilitation program is to regain pre-injury levels in all aspects of physical fitness. A full rehabilitation and strengthening program is essential to ensure full recovery and in order to prevent re-injuries.
