How does Laser Hair Removal work?
The client shaves the area where the treatment is to be undertaken. The client then comes to the Old Thorns Spa where in one of our luxury treatment rooms one of our aestheticians will apply a cooling gel to the shaved area. Once this has been done the wand is placed against the skin where a beam of light will be directed at the skin follicles.
This beam of light heats the root of the hair follicle and prevents it from growing hair. After leaving the treatment you may even notice some of the hair coming out from the follicles, this is normal and lasts about 14 days post treatment.
How effective is it?
Very effective however for the best results you need 6-8 treatments as hair grows in cycles and at different rates over a body area the sessions will follow this cycle so that at the end of the treatments your treated area will have had its hair growth permanently reduced. Not all clients are the same enhancements in technology have enabled the treatment of light fine hair and also coarse thick dark hair in darker skinned clients but the number of sessions may vary as we go follicle to follicle.
Does it hurt?
The system we use heats the root of the follicle so there is an element of heat but not enough to cause burning. From asking our clients and staff the consensus is that it’s a mild heat with a mild flicking sensation but never painful. For those clients who are concerned during your consultation our aesthetician may suggest trying a small test area so you can make a decision on whether to proceed with a larger area.
Where can it be used?
Our aestheticians are trained to remove hair from all external areas of the body and face. In many cases the difficult to reach areas like ears/inside legs are the parts that benefit the most from laser hair removal removing the need for painful waxing/ plucking or shaving.
